Being An International Student and Studying In Your Own Country
Being an international student and studying in your own country bring about completely different experiences to a person. First of all, an international student gains much more experience than a national student. He/she faces with so many kinds of situations from the worst to the best. For example, an international student experiences a culture shock whereas a national student does not, but an international student can have the chance to know other cultures better. While studying, a national student can not have this chance because he/she should be struggling with his/her homeworks and exams. An international student also have more opportunities like knowing the system of other countries, having experiences in different parts of the world and in different companies by doing internship. Secondly, international students can use their practical skills better in their lives. For instance, they use their English in their daily routine, so they improve this skill with time easily while a national student does not have a condition to communicate in English in his/her own country. By using their practical skills like this, they also gain more self-confidence which is necessary for a person to broaden himself/herself. The more you have self-confidence, the more probability to succeed. However, these all do not mean that being an international student has only benefits. It also has some disadvantages like cost and culture shock. Every international student experiences any level of culture shock but if they can't recover from it, it would reflect on their success and no student in the world wants to fail. Also, studying in abroad is not suitable for students of any level of economical class. It is expensive and costs like thousands dollars while a national student(no matter it a little bit depends on the city in which he/she studies) can go with some money not like thousands dollars. In conclusion, being an international student and a national student mean totally different concepts.

being a student in METU
Every student in Turkey wants to study in a university like METU because it has good qualified staff, chosen students and a wide reputation. I was one of these students but I was lucky because I had the chance to study here. When I first came to METU, like all the other freshmen I was a little bit disappointed because with a mentality of a newcomer to university, I was expecting somethings more entertaining rather than studying and quality in education. However, as time passed, I realized that METU is a big but a non-renewable chance for me. So unlike my friends in other universities, METU gave me a hand to think the future.. Also, my friends here are very qualified people, they have goals and disciplines in their lives. I have so many teachers to take as a model, I have many facilities like a huge library, student organizations which have a variety of things, sport courses, DEVRIM, a enormous campus side, a systematic order of the school etc. which please me much. Besides these facilities, METU has so many dormitories -some of which are in distant areas but comfortable- in campus so the students can catch their lectures easily. Also, there is a ring system which is sometimes not available but it meets the needs of the students and it is free of charge which is just the right thing for a university. In addition, we have chances to go abroad and study there with some programs like erasmus and comenius and there are some erasmus students studying here in METU and communicating with them in English is also necessary for the students here. I liked my department because I was expecting more strict courses and teachers but thanks God I found a lovely department having a strong cooperation inside and loved my teachers who has just the intention to teach not to try to train us in a hard way. In summary, I can recommend to study in METU to any kind of student.
